BIO     Katelyn Doxey grew up in Springfield, TN. She is a graduate of Lipscomb University with a degree in Physics Teaching. She also has a masters in Education from Bethel University. After graduating from college, Katelyn spent a semester in Orlando working at Walt Disney World in the Disney College Program. Upon moving home, she began teaching high school math and physics and coaching middle school softball at East Robertson High/Middle School, where she also previously attended school. After 3 years at East Robertson, she moved to Murfreesboro and began working at Oakland High School. She married her husband, Seth, and they have been married for 3 1/2 years. They have a sweet 5 month old baby named Emmy. Katelyn taught 4 1/2 years at Oakland before deciding to stay home with her sweet baby Emmy. Katelyn holds a valid Tennessee teaching license and is trained and certified to teach Advanced Placement Physics and International Baccalaureate Math. She has taught a variety of classes including Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Integrated Math 1, Integrated Math 2, Integrated Math 3, IB Math, Physical Science, Physics, and ACT Prep.    Katelyn and Seth are members of North Boulevard Church of Christ in Murfreesboro, TN. Katelyn enjoys reading, running, traveling, Atlanta Braves baseball, and planning vacations as a Disney travel agent. She loves teaching math and physics because she enjoys challenging students and seeing them grow in their understanding of the world around them.

Course Description/Outline/Objectives: 

Pre-calculus will investigate many types of functions, their graphs, solutions, and interpretations of those solutions. These functions may include but are not limited to linear, polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. We will emphasize modeling and application of functions when possible. Other topics that may be covered in this course include analytic geometry, statistics, and vectors.

This course will be a pre-cursor to a calculus class and a solid foundation in Algebra 2 is important for students looking to take this class. Since this class is to prepare students for calculus, they will see beginning concepts from calculus including basic derivatives and integrals. Hopefully by the end of this class, students will not only be prepared for a basic calculus class, but will also have an appreciation for the beauty and perfection of the math found in their every day lives in the world around them.

Expected Weekly Time Commitment for Homework:  5+ hours per week.
