BIO     Courtney lives with her husband Andrew and their two children (soon to be 3) in Murfreesboro, TN. Courtney graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. They are members of Redeeming Grace Church in Franklin, TN.    Courtney is passionate about how science and creation teach us about our Creator. Courtney’s heart in teaching students about science is to challenge them academically, ignite their passion to learn and help them have a greater understanding of how the world works, but most importantly, to allow this knowledge to stir their affections for our Creator.

Optional Materials:  Parents, if you buy the curriculum set it will include the Textbook as well as the Solutions and Tests booklet. It might prove helpful to you as the parent facilitating their work at home, but it is not required. There is also an additional audio book cd available at an additional price which has been very helpful to students in the past, especially auditory learners. These additional resources are not required for class, but they are available if you so choose.

Course Description/Outline/Objectives: General science is an introduction to the sciences. The course covers a broad range of topics including the scientific method, designing experiments, simple machines, archaeology, geology, paleontology, biology, and human anatomy and physiology.  The hands on labs as well as class content will help students understand the concepts more concretely. Class time is meant to supplement and enhance learning done at home. Thus, students are expected to arrive to class prepared to contribute and engage with their fellow classmates to enhance the learning environment. Although the majority of experiments will be performed in class, students will be asked to perform a number of experiments at home in order to heighten learning. In addition, tests will be taken at home and signed by parents.

Expected Weekly Time Commitment for Homework: 4-6 hours
